Bender Genealogy & History

Bender is an English and German occupational name. In England it derives from Old English "benden", meaning "bowmaker" (the weapon bow), while in Germany it derives from Old German "Fassbinder", meaning "cooper" (barrel-maker). Alternative spellings include Bandder, Bendder, and Bennder. In Bender family history, the majority of Benders were found in the Baden region of southwest Germany, with smaller populations in southern England near London as well as in southeast Scotland. The Bender coat of arms is a blue shield with three gold beehives on a silver bend (band). American Bender genealogy begins in 1709 with several families emigrating to New York.
