Ferreira is a name that derives from the Latin ferrum (iron) and is applied to a blacksmith, iron worker, or someone who lived at an ironworks. In this form it is Portuguese, but Ferreira family history notes that it is found in almost every European country with its appropriate spelling, including Ferrier, Ferriez, Ferri, Ferier, Ferie, Farrier, De Ferrier, De Farier, Le Feries, and Les Feriers. The first recorded was Henry de Ferrieres in the Domesday Book of the Estates of England in 1086; Pierre Ferrier settled in Virginia in 1700. Some Ferreira genealogy members are Canadian politician Paul Ferreira and Brazilian pharmacologist S�rgio Henrique Ferreira.
