Massachusetts Genealogy Resources

Massachusetts is the home of the New England Historical Society, the Massachusetts Historical Society, two regional National Archives (Waltham and Pittsfield) and many other genealogical repositories that are treasured by researchers.

Researchers can access many early collections, 1629-1799, online at the Massachusetts Archives website. The indices to Vital Records for 1841-1910 and Passenger Manifests, 1848-1891, are also searchable at the Archives website.

Be sure to also check the Commonwealth Communities page that provides city and county research agencies that may hold registered vital records from the colonial period, beginning 1635.
