Michigan Genealogy & LDS Family History Centers
Many Michigan residents have joined the trend to trace their family roots, but not all of them know where to begin the research process. Whether you are beginning your genealogy research from the very start, or you are needing additional resources to complete your search, you can find what you are looking for at a Michigan family history center. These research facilities, located throughout the state, offer access to the extensive collection of resources through the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. The centers are all run through the Michigan LDS Churches, but they are open to the general public free of charge.

Michigan Genealogy Resources
When you think of Michigan, perhaps images of great cars, great music, and even Great Lakes come to mind. Certainly Henry Ford, the Motown sound, and the five impressive bodies of water--Huron, Michigan, Erie, and Superior--all contribute to this "Wolverine" state's rich history. But even more important are the diverse immigrant groups who settled there during the early 1800s and 1900s. Michigan started out as part of the Northwest Territory in 1787, gained US territory status is 1805, and was admitted to statehood in 1837. You'll find statewide birth, marriage and death records as early as 1867, but other records such as land claims, Civil War and other war documents, and additional biographical and historical records can help navigate your research in this "Great Lakes" state.
