Both Virginia birth records and Virginia death records are available from 1853 to 1896 and from June 14, 1912, to the present from the Division of Vital Records or online at VirginiaBirthCertificate.com or VitalChek. The Archives Division of the Library of Virginia has copies of some birth and records from 1853 to 1896. Virginia birth certificates are public record after 100 years have passed, and Virginia death records are public information after 50 years.
