Cherry County vital recordsCherry County is, by far, the largest county in Nebraska with regards to total land area. It is so large, it borders 11 other counties despite being square shaped, and it is one of only four total counties in the country that span across two time zones, both central and mountain times. A total of four protected areas reside within the county's borders, including the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge, the Valentine National Wildlife Refuge, and two others. The latter is named after the county seat of Valentine, NE, which the County Clerk and Register of Deeds are located. Between those two offices, most records aside from birth and death records are maintained and made available for research purposes. Birth and death records are maintained at the state level by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services which runs its vital records department in the state capitol of Lincoln.
