Chippewa County vital recordsIn addition to a number of other duties, the Chippewa County Recorder's Office is responsible for handling the vital records and statistics for the area. The department welcomes those wanting to research available records into the office, in Montvideo, MN., on 629 North Eleventh Street. The Recorder has birth and death, as well as marriage, and military discharge records, all of which date back to the 1870s and continue to the present. The office also provides a couple online systems to view property records for the area. One of the programs is subscription based, and one charges fees for individual searches; both programs accept credit cards online. The genealogy group USGenWeb also has a Chippewa County page that has further resources, and the Chippewa County Historical Society performs fee-based genealogy research for individuals.
