Clarke County, VA Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records
The Clarke County Circuit Court Clerk issues marriage licenses. Vital records are available to immediate family members (with valid identification) at the Virginia Department of Health for $12.00. Death, marriage, and divorce records become public after 50 years, birth records after 100. Clarke County was named for revolutionary war hero George Rogers Clark, but an e was mistakenly added to Clark's last name during the legislative process. The county was formed in 1836 from part of Frederick County. The area was originally part of Lord Fairfax's five-million-acre land grant, surveyed by the young George Washington.
