As of 1903, duplicate records were sent to the state, where copies can be obtained online at TexasOnline. Cottle County was created in 1876 from Fannin County. The US Army drove the Native Americans (Apaches and Comanches) out in the 1870s; Anglo-American settlers arrived a decade later.
