Evangeline Parish, LA Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records

Evangeline Parish, which is located directly in the middle of the state of Louisiana, was named after the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem, Evangeline, which is a narrative poem about an Acadian girl. Acadian is the precursor to the modern day Cajun. The parish is home to the Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge, a wildlife refuge that was established in 1937, and is almost 35,000 acres in size. As is typical with many wildlife refuges in Louisiana, a large portion of the Lacassine Refuge are swamps.
