Copies of marriage records can be obtained at the Clerk of Courts in the Forest County Courthouse in Tionesta; fees are assessed on a per-case basis. Divorce decrees can be obtained at the Prothonotary Office in the same buildingcertified papers are $3.00 plus photocopying costs. Forest County was created on April 11, 1848, from part of Jefferson County. The county was enlarged on October 31, 1866, when part of Venango County was incorporated into the county. Its county seat is Tionesta.
