Fulton County vital recordsBoth the Fulton County Clerk and County Historian are located in the County Office Building at 223 West Main Street in the county seat of Johnstown, NY. The Historian is responsible for the maintenance and archival of historical records and documents, as well as assisting members of the public who wish to research them, and the Clerk is responsible for collecting those records to begin with. Most county records are recorded with the Clerk, with the exception of birth and death records. Those are kept at the local level in the individual towns where the event occurred. The town clerk's office is responsible for maintaining birth and death records, and those particular records become open to the public upon reaching 75 and 50 years of age, respectively. The Fulton County Historical Society and Museum also have a number of records at its archives in the town of Gloversville.
