Gibson County vital recordsAlthough Gibson County, Tennessee, formed from Indian lands in 1823, stores some vital records, copies of all records are sent from the county seat in Trenton to the state Vital Records Office (http://health.state.tn.us/vr/Genealogy.htm). That office maintains birth records for 100 years and death, marriage, and divorce records for 50 years. Copies of birth certificates are $15.00 for the first copy and $5.00 for each additional copy. There is a $7.00 charge for death certificate copies. VitalChek (http://www.vitalchek.com/tennessee-express-vital-records.aspx) makes records available on the Internet for an additional service fee. The county courthouse in Trenton experienced a fire in 1941, but vital records remained intact.
