Harper County vital recordsHarper County vital records can be requested from the County Health Department in Laverne or the state Health Department in Oklahoma City. Orders are accepted by mail or in person for $15, with online ordering through VitalChek; records for living persons are restricted to family. Statewide recordkeeping was initiated in 1907, mandated in 1917, but compliance was spotty until the 1940s. Marriage and divorce records are available from the Clerk of Court in Buffalo. The Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City maintains older records. A small county (population under 4000), Harper was opened to non-Indian settlement with the 1893 Cherokee Outlet Opening.
