Records for living persons are restricted. Although statewide recording of births and deaths was mandated in 1917, compliance was spotty until the 1940s. Marriage and divorce records are unrestricted legal records, maintained by the Court Clerk in Stigler. Historical records are available at the Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City. Haskell County had been part of Sans Bois County in the Choctaw Nation.
