The county keeps original copies of vital statistics and provides copies to the state. State records have been kept since 1903; birth records are confidential for 75 years and death records for 25 years. Marriage licenses and other records are also kept. Certified copies of non-public records are provided only to qualified applicants, but anyone can obtain a verification letter. Certificate requests may be made at the local office; an application form is available at the website. Birth certificates are $23.00; death certificates are $21.00 for the first page and $4.00 for each additional page.
