Knox County, NE Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records
Knox County is situated in the northeast corner of Nebraska, bordering South Dakota to the north. It was founded in 1854 and named after Henry Knox, well known American general in the Revolutionary War. The population is relatively small at about 8,700, and as such, the positions of the Register of Deeds and County Clerk are combined. The office is in the Knox County Courthouse in the county seat of Center, NE, at 206 Main Street. Those wanting to research property, marriage, and most other records aside from births and deaths can visit there. The two exceptions, birth and death records, are maintained by the Office of Vital Records in Lincoln, NE. The office is connected with the Nebraska State Department of Health and Human Services and maintains vital records for the entire state. Marriage and divorce records are also available there, dated from 1909, while birth and death records begin in 1904.
