Lake County vital recordsLake County has a thorough genealogy section on its website in the Recorder and Vitals section. The Recorder office is open to researchers upon their completion of a records search application form, which is available at the office or by mail upon request. Staff will also perform searches through the county birth records, most of which begin in the late 1880s, though some begin in 1874, as well as death, marriage, and naturalization records, all of which begin in 1891. Those interested in researching divorce, adoption, and other records are advised to contact the Lake County Court Administration Department at (218) 834-8330. The Lake County Historical Society also provides research assistance, and will perform actual research for non-Society members for $25 an hour. Members are simply asked for a donation, instead. Individuals are asked to fill out a Research Request Form prior to requesting their services.
