Lancaster County vital recordsCertified copies of Lancaster County birth and death records are restricted to immediate family, for records 1906-present. Certified copies can be requested in person, by mail, or online from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of Vital Records in New Castle. Marriage and divorce records are unrestricted court records, and requests for these records should be directed to the County Clerk of Court in Lancaster. All records prior to 1906 are considered historical and unrestricted, found at the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg, the Lancaster County Historical Society, or the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. The county of Lancaster dates to 1729, when it was formed from Chester County.
