Livingston County vital recordsLivingston County is one of a great many counties in New York that began as part of the previously-enormous Albany County. Livingston went through several iterations but reached its current state as far as total area when it was officially established in 1821. The town of Geneseo is the county seat and is home to most of the local county government agencies and departments, including the County Clerk. Located in Room 201 of the County Courthouse at 6 Court Street, the office has a large variety of records and documents on file, most of which are open to the public. The County Historian operates under the jurisdiction of the Clerk, and between the two departments, the records on file include census records for the county, military discharges, all property and deeds records, criminal and civil court cases, and much more.
