Birth records older than 100 years, and death, marriage, and divorce records older than 50 years, are ordinarily considered public. Named for Mingo Indian Chief Logan (who was named after James Logan), Logan County was created in 1824 from Cabell, Giles, Kanawha, and Tazewell Counties.
