Connecticut vital records concerning marriages and civil unions are available for $20. A check or money order is required to obtain Connecticut marriage records or those for civil unions from the town or city in which the ceremony took place, or the towns in which one or both persons resided at the time; for requests sent to the State Vital Records Office, only a money order is acceptable. In the case of Connecticut divorce records, contact the Clerk of Superior Court where the marriage or civil union was ended, as the State Vital Records Office does not have this information and thus cannot release it. One of the original colonies, Connecticut was admitted to the Union in January 1788 as the fifth state. One of its residents, Roger Sherman, was a member of the committee assigned to write the Declaration of Independence.
