Massachusetts marriage records from 1916 on and divorce records from 1952 on are available from the Registry of Vital Records Office, for a fee. The actual Massachusetts divorce records from 1922 to the present are available from the Registrar of the Probate Court where the divorce was obtained (http://www.mass.gov/courts/courtsandjudges/courts/probateandfamilycourt/courthousesbycounty.html) for a fee. For both types of Massachusetts vital records, only certified copies are offered, and fees include a ten-year search in the event an exact date or place of marriage or divorce is unknown. Fees may be paid by personal check or money order made payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. For records for marriages earlier than 1841, contact the Town or City Hall (http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleclk/clkidx.htm) where the marriage occurred. For marriage or divorce records from 1841 through 1915, apply in person or write to The Massachusetts Archives at Columbia Point, 220 Morrissey Boulevard, Boston, MA 02125.
