The Nevada Office of Vital Records and Statistics has summary information only on marriages and divorces after 1969. The office will provide a search of its index for a fee, but does not issue certified copies of these Nevada vital records. Requests for certified copies of Nevada marriage records must be made to the county recorders office; requests for certified copies of Nevada divorce records must be made to the county clerk of court. Earlier marriage records for 1850-1969 are available at the county recorder's office, and earlier Nevada divorce records for 1862-1969 are available at the clerk of court. BYU-Idaho's online "Western States Historical Marriage Records Index" includes 270,000 pre-1940 marriages in Nevada and eight other states. An index of divorce records for Nevada's territorial period (pre-statehood in 1864) is available at the Nevada State Library and Archives.
