Although statewide recording of vital records was mandated in 1917, compliance was spotty until the 1940s. The Oklahoma Historical society maintains historical records, with marriage/divorce records available from the County Court Clerk in Pryor. Originally part of the Cherokee Nation, Mayes County was founded upon Oklahoma's statehood in 1907.
