Mississippi County vital recordsMississippi County, so named for the Mississippi River, is located in the southeastern corner of Missouri, bordering the river to the east. The County Clerk is responsible for maintaining records of the County Commission's proceedings and has records dating back to 1845. The Circuit Clerk handles court records, civil and criminal, and has listed among its responsibilities to assist with genealogical searches including all available resources, with a few exceptions. The Recorder of Deeds will also assist in searching through the records the office has on file, which include property, marriage, and others. The Recorder's office has records dating back to the early 1900s. All of the above offices are located in the Mississippi County Courthouse on 200 N. Main Street; the County Clerk is on the 1st floor, while the remaining two are on the 2nd.
