The population is fairly large, as well, with about 235,000 residents in 2010. The Oneida County Historical Society is headquartered in the county seat of Utica, NY, at 1608 Genesee Street. The Society operates a research library there that has a huge amount of material on hand, including over 250,000 record books and historical documents. Those who can visit the library in person are free to view and research all documents the library has on file. The Society will also perform research requests for those who are not able to visit in person. The office of the County Clerk, also in Utica, has a number of public historical records on file, as well, such as mortgage and deeds records, civil and criminal court cases, and much more.
