In 1951, anticipating the civil rights movement, a 16-year-old African-American girl, Barbara Rose Johns, led a school strike against the County Board of Supervisors of Prince Edward County over the deplorable conditions at the all-black Moton High School. The ensuing lawsuit, named Davis v. Prince Edward, became part of the landmark US Supreme Court case, Brown v.
