Many of the county government departments in Ray County, founded in 1820, have records on file dating back almost as far as when the county was established. The Circuit Court has civil cases and divorce records dating from 1824 to the present, as well as naturalization records from 1903 to 1945. The office also has court records and indexes from 1821 to 1882. The Recorder of Deeds has marriage records from the actual year of the county's formation, 1820, to the present, along with property records from the same period, and military discharges from 1919 also to the present.
