Rensselaer County vital recordsRensselaer County, one of a fairly large number of counties in New York State that began as a part of the huge Albany County, was officially incorporated in 1791. A wealthy Dutch merchant named Kiliaen van Rensselaer was one of the original owners of land in the area, which is where the county derived its name. The library is open year round, with the exception of the month of January, on Thursdays through Saturdays from 12:00PM until 5:00PM. Individuals can schedule appointments outside those hours of operations, as well, and the Society accepts long distance research requests for those who are unable to visit in person. Requests can be submitted by email or by calling the Society at (518) 272-7232.
