Richland County, WI Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records

Richland County vital recordsRichland County, named for its rich farmland, was created in 1842 out of Iowa County. Vital records date to 1864 (marriages), 1875 (births), and 1876 (deaths). Historical records pre-1907 can be found at the Wisconsin Historical Society, with a statewide index, but recordkeeping was sketchy until the October 1907 registration law. Post-1907 record copies are available locally through the Richland Center Register of Deeds, with divorce record copies from the Clerk of Court, or from the state Vital Records Office of the Department of Health in Madison. Requests can be made in person, by mail, or by fax (online through VitalChek) for $20 including a five-year search.
