Shelby County, MO Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records

Shelby County vital recordsShelby County, named for the first governor of the state of Kentucky, Isaac Shelby, was founded in 1835. One of the original settlements within the county borders was the town of Shelbyville, MO, which is now the county seat. Both the County Circuit Clerk and the County Recorder are located there within the Shelby County Courthouse on 100 East Main Street. The two offices count, among their other duties, the filing and dispensing of a number of record types, from property and marriage records to divorce and criminal ones. Those who named the towns in the county followed a theme, and the Shelby County Historical Society is located in the nearby town of Shelbina at 107 South Center. The Society operates a museum at that address that is open on Fridays only from 1:00PM until 3:00PM, only during the months of June, July, and August.
