Surry County vital recordsThe Surry County Clerk of Circuit Court records and maintains all records of county people and property. Vital records are available to immediate family members (with valid identification) at the Virginia Department of Health for $12.00. Death, marriage, and divorce records become public after 50 years, birth records after 100. Surry County's Caucasian history dates from the earliest European settlers of Virginia. In 1652, it was formed from a portion of James City County. One hundred years later, it became part of the new Commonwealth of Virginia. The current courthouse, constructed in 1923, contains one of the most complete collections of original county records in the nation.
