Taos County vital recordsIn the state of New Mexico, vital records are kept by the Department of Health in Albuquerque. The Department has birth and death certificates dating from 1919 to the present for the entire state, including Taos County. Death records 50 years old and older are open to the public, and birth records 100 years and older are, as well, however since most records have not reached those qualifying ages, most are not available for research. The Department accepts walk-ins who wish to apply for certified copies in person, as well as applications sent through the mail. Those who want further information can contact the Department directly at 1 (866) 534-0051. For most other records, the Taos County Clerk is at 105 Albright Street in Suite D in the town of Taos, NM. All records on file at the Clerk's office are open to the public for research and viewing.
