Traverse County, MN Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records

Traverse County vital recordsIn addition to a number of Historical Groups in Traverse County, the smallest county in all of Minnesota as far as population, with only 3,500 residents, the County Recorder is a main source for certified copies of vital records along with genealogical information for the area. All of the records that the office, which is located in Wheaton, MN, offers are dated from 1881, with the exception of land records, which begin in 1872, 10 years after the county was established. Both the Traverse County Historical Society in Wheaton, as well as the Browns Valley Historical Society in the town of Browns Valley offer genealogical research resources and can be contacted with inquiries. Both organizations have limited hours of operations, so it is advised to contact them before visiting to avoid any conflicts in scheduling. Traverse County takes its name from Lake Traverse, which is partially located within the county borders.
