Historical records prior to 1906, dating as early as 1682, are public and unrestricted, and are maintained by the Washington County Historical Society in Washington, the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society in Pittsburgh, and the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg. Marriage and divorce records are unrestricted public court records, and may be obtained from the Washington County Clerk of Court in Washington. Formed in 1781, Washington County had been Westmoreland County.
