Woods County vital recordsWoods County vital records are maintained by the state Health Department in Oklahoma City and the county one in Alva. Copies can be ordered for $15 by mail or in person, or online through VitalChek, although records for living persons are restricted. Recordkeeping was initiated in 1907, but it was not mandated until 1917, and compliance was not universal until the 1940s. Marriage and divorce records are available from the Alva clerk of court, and historical records from the Oklahoma Historical Society. Originally called County M, Woods County was opened to non-Indian settlement in 1893 (the Cherokee Outlet), and renamed in 1894.
