The Cabell County Clerk maintains vital records (including those for divorce) before 1917. With few exceptions, only family members can obtain birth records within the last 100 years as well as death and marriage records within the last 50 years. Cabell County was formed in 1809 and named for William H. Cabell, governor of Virginia from 1805 to 1808.
