Beaufort County vital records for 1915-present can be ordered by mail or in person from the Vital Records office of the Beaufort Public Health Department. Each search (including one certificate) costs $12; certificates for births and deaths will be issued to family members only, with identification. Online ordering services are provided by VitalChek. Historical records, dating to 1641, are at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History in Columbia, with a free 1915-1960 death record index on the South Carolina Department of Health website. Pre-1950 marriage records should be ordered from the Beaufort county Probate Judge; post-1949 divorce records should be ordered from the Beaufort County Clerk.
