Lackawanna County vital recordsLackawanna County birth and death vital records can be requested from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of Vital Records in New Castle for 1906-present, but certified copies are restricted to family only. Online, mail, and in-person requests are accepted. Records prior to 1906 have no restrictions but are not maintained at the Division of Vital Records; the Lackawanna Historical Society in Scranton and the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg have records dating to 1682. Marriage and divorce records, which are unrestricted court public records, can be requested from the Lackawanna County Clerk of Court in Scranton. Lackawanna County was created in 1878 from Luzerne County.
