Chester County, SC Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records
Chester County vital records are under the purview of the Chester Public Health Department Vital Records Office in Chester. This office will provide certified copies of records 1915-present to family members only when ordered in person or by mail (online through VitalCheck), for $12 per search/copy. There is a free online index for 1915-1960 deaths on the state Department of Health website. Historical records (birth 1641-1914 and deaths 1641-1960) are available at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History in Columbia. Requests for pre-1950 marriage records should be made to the Chester Probate Judge; requests for post-1949 divorce records should be made to the Chester County Clerk.
